Psychological assessments can help clarify learning, attention, development and behaviour, providing a deeper understanding of strengths, challenges and support needs.

At Little Bee Psychology, assessments are conducted using evidence-based methods, with a focus on accuracy,
clarity and practical outcomes.

Each assessment is tailored to the individual, ensuring the process is both thorough and meaningful.

Assessment Types

  • A comprehensive assessment of social communication, behaviour and developmental profile, aligned with current diagnostic guidelines.

Autism assessments are conducted by two Autism SA-accredited practitioners, Karolina Pasierbek (psychologist) and Aliya Popkova (speech pathologist). Together, they have over a decade of collaborative experience assessing children, adolescents, and adults for autism. Their comprehensive approach includes a nuanced understanding of internalised presentations and specific neurodivergent profiles, such as the PDA profile.

    This assessment may involve:

    • clinical interviews

    • standardised assessment tools

    • behavioural observations

    • input from parents, teachers or other professionals

Following an autism assessment, if an individual is identified as autistic, they or their family may choose to apply to the NDIS for support. The NDIS makes all eligibility decisions independently. While we can provide guidance and the necessary documentation for the application process, funding outcomes cannot be guaranteed.

  • Assessment of attention, focus, impulsivity and executive functioning using structured, evidence-based methods.

These assessments provide a comprehensive understanding of how attention and behaviour are experienced across different settings.

    This may include:

    • clinical interviews

    • rating scales and questionnaires

    • behavioural observations

Following an ADHD assessment for children or adults, a diagnosis may be provided where appropriate. Support options vary, and if medication is something you wish to explore, this can be discussed with a paediatrician or psychiatrist, in line with your or your family’s values.

  • Assessment of cognitive ability, learning profile and academic achievement.

These assessments provide a detailed understanding of how an individual learns, processes and applies information, and can help identify specific learning differences, including dyslexia, dyscalculia and dysgraphia, as well as intellectual disability or giftedness.

    They support:

    • identification of learning strengths and challenges

    • clarity around cognitive and academic profile

    • informed educational planning and appropriate supports

  • Assessments can be tailored to individual needs, including combined or overlapping assessments where appropriate (for example, psycho-educational and ADHD, or autism and ADHD).

This approach provides a comprehensive understanding of overlapping neurodevelopmental profiles, supporting clear recommendations and appropriate next steps.

  • If you are unsure which assessment is most suitable, or would like to discuss your concerns before booking, we offer a pre-assessment consultation.

This session provides an opportunity to explore your questions, receive professional guidance, and consider the most appropriate assessment pathway - including combined or overlapping assessments - before making a decision.

Assessment Process

  • Submit your enquiry and we will guide you through the next steps, including gathering relevant information and completing necessary paperwork to prepare for assessment.

  • Structured assessment sessions are conducted using evidence-based tools, tailored to the individual.

Depending on the type of assessment, this may take place over one or multiple sessions.

Assessments typically include a one-on-one observation and assessment session, and a parent or caregiver interview.

  • A comprehensive report is prepared, followed by a feedback session to explain the findings and discuss recommendations and next steps.

What can assessments provide?

A comprehensive assessment offers more than a diagnosis - it provides a clear understanding and direction moving forward.

Outcomes:

  • A clear understanding of strengths and areas of difficulty

  • A formal diagnosis where appropriate

  • Guidance for supports, accommodations and next steps

  • Guidance around funding options and support pathways, where applicable

  • Practical recommendations for home, school, study, work or daily life

  • Confidence in moving forward with clarity
